I finished my history of Wyoming class. Yay! I must say I learned a lot about Wyoming, the land of my.. er....the land of ..... the cowboy sta.... oh you get my point.
So now on to better and bigger and more important things- aka my hubby. I've decided to devote more time in the new year to his business as the silent partner and assistant. He needs my help more than ever and I think because of this dinky class we've lost some ground. "We have much to do, and less time to do it in" like Robin Hood said in "Men in Tights."
First thing's first though, Christmas. I'm about ready. Sport-o has some secretive things to do (while I'm at work) so I await with anticipation for what I get in my stocking on the 25th. We're also numbed with enthusiasm about a visitor who will visit us in the brand spankin' new year! My Mom! I'll keep the world posted with this one!
Well, if I don't post before Christmas of New Year- Happy Holidays to everyone who reads my blog. You know who you are.
I close with some quotes from "Christmas Vacation"
Chevy Chase (Clark): "Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse. "
------
(and my fave...)
"Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is. Hallelujah. Holy shit. Where's the Tylenol?"

Petroglyphs

Some of these you can tell are just fading away. It's sad. People come and make rubbings with a pencil and paper and it just reduces the carving to deteriorate.Petroglyphs

Sorry it has taken so long to get these pictures up! Here are some shots of Petroglyph Canyon we went to a few months ago.

What happens in your pajamas
Let me tell you a story that happened Sunday night.
I was at home around 10pm watching tv, winding down for the evening. I was alone, in my pjs, cuddled up on the couch with the cat on my lap, watching tv. I heard some strange noises outside and lowered the volume to hear. Suddenly I hear a man yell, "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!" It was so loud and forceful I sprung up, practically flinging the cat, and dropped to the floor instinctively. Waht was going on?! I moved over to the window to see what was happening outside but stopped myself short for fear that someone would see me. So I ran into my bedroom where there were no lights and peered through the blinds.
Surrounding my apartment building were the policed dressed in full body armor carrying assault weapons. In the next instant I hear them in my building, again, screaming at someone to "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!"
My apartment building is fairly small; 2 floors, 4 apartments, so I knew where they were entering at that moment, but I had no idea why. Could someone have snuck into the laundry room downstairs? Was it a drug raid? Was it one of our neighbors? In that same moment I felt alone and confused. Sport-o was playing hockey and there was no real way of reaching him. I called my Dad. But instead of getting him, I got my mother. There's nothing like unintentionally scaring your mother.
I didn't know what to think. Was there going to be gun fire? Were the police going to come here? So many questions. My Dad was telling me about different survival tips if I hear gunfire. "Get in the tub!" he says to me. That's so comforting to hear.
A few minutes later I hear a knocking at the door. It was my neighbor Dave who lived across from me. I let him in and he bursts out, "What the fuck is going on!?!?!!!" I look right back at him and say, "shit if I know!" We were both totally clueless and helpless. And what about the old lady downstairs? She has health problems and all this action may have given her a heart attack- it sure did scare the crap out of me! My heart was about to jump out of my chest!
The police told us to stay in our apartments. A cop stood by the door not letting anyone in or out. A few minutes later Sport-o calls me from his cell phone. Turns out he was sitting in the truck at the end of the road. They wouldn't let him come home. He asked the police barracade what was going on. The cop said, they were dealing with someone who has "issues."
Sport-o went on to say that he wanted to get home to his wife. They asked where he lived. When he said it was the yellow apartment building on the left, the policeman stopped short in his tracks and walked away. This scared Sport-o. Could it be his beloved Sport-a in trouble?!!! His mind wandered into so many scenarios. And he had no answers! So you can imagine his relief when I answered the phone.
Meanwhile I am entertaining my unexpected guest while cops are arresting someone downstairs. We compared notes. Now we could see an armored vehicle outside and sharpshooters across the street. Now through all of this I'm in my pajamas: Strawberry Shortcake pants with a t-shirt, covered by a blue bathrobe. Definitely sexy.
Some time lapsed and they allowed Sport-o to come home. He was able to see more from outside of the building than we could inside. After all the men left and our neighbor was arrested, there were crime scene photographers in that apartment. Eric saw a pile of firearms in the doorway being confiscated. He heard a photographer remark on how awful the smell was in that apartment, but nothing else significant.
Then poof! The police were gone. It was all over.
What do you do after something like this? My heart wasn't pounding like before, but I was wired. It was late and I had work the next day but I couldn't sleep. Neither could Sport-o or neighbor Dave. Dave said it about right when he proclaimed, "I need a beer." Sport-o agreed. So I got dressed and we walked to the only bar in town that would be open on a Sunday night after 11:00pm. It was a dump, but the beer was perfect.
Sport-o and I woke up the next morning and both had the same thought, "What the hell happened last night?"
In Wednesday's paper it said the following, slightly edited:
"An incident involving the ... Police Department's armored tactical vehicle ended peacefully Sunday night. About 10 p.m. a caller reported someone being a threat to themselves or others on ... Street. The armored vehicle was activated and during the incident police carried assault rifles. But the incident with solved without issue. Due to privacy laws police were unable to release additional information. "
That still does not answer any real questions, but at least we are safe. "A threat to themselves or others".... hmmm.
The police never notified us when they left to say that everything was "ok" or anything. I don't know if that is a policy for them, but in thinking about how scary the whole incident was, and how small the building is, it would have been more reassuring. It also would have been nice if they knocked on the old lady's door to make sure that she was ok. Sport-o and neighbor Dave went to check on her later on and she was fine, but you get my point.
Sport-o was bold yesterday when he saw that neighbor who was arrested and asked him what happened. The man dodged the question, just saying "a lot of issues" went on.
I have lived near the downtown of a major city for most of my life and I've seen many things, but I never would have thought in moving to a small town of 9,000 people with a low crime rate, where people leave their doors unlocked and are very trusting, to have such an event happen so close.

Penny Lane
Update on "Cat":
Cat is still with Sport-o and Sport-a. Cat now goes by the name "Penny Lane" and lives happily with Frodo and the Sports. Of course, Frodo and Penny Lane cannot be alone together, not yet anyway, though Penny Lane looks disgusted at the sight of the guinea pig. No one came looking for Penny Lane, and seems happy to be with the Sports.

Only in Wyoming
Things that happen in small town Wyoming and people don't bat an eyelash:
1. a windstorm that records gusts over 100 miles per hour.
2. Cops pulling people over for having things like plastic covers on their license plates. But yet, there are pieces of crap driving down the road with red duct tape on the breaklights and they don't care. There are no car inspections in Wyoming.
3. Hotels and other similar establishments are not required to install sprinklers if they are within a certain size (and other requirements). A hotel in another small town burned down and one person died.
4. When turning right, people drive on the wide shoulder of the street for a few feet before turning.
5. Gas prices are just as high here, sometimes higher- even though oil comes from Wyoming, Montana, and other surrounding states
6. If a mountain lion or bear come into town
7. Male chauvinism
Things that happen in small town Wyoming that will make people freak out:
1. A woman applies for a leadership position in a leading institution- an uproar! It's a man's world!
2. Anything that is non-conservative or modern (hey ma! Let's turn on that new doo hickey, that raad-ee-oh.)
3. lots of rain
4. Development- any development
5. When any kind of culture is introduced other than "western"
6. Young, ambitious people (or a young ambitious woman- eeks!)
7. A closed container law in vehicles
8. Anything that's not free
Ok-ok I may be a little dramatic with some of these, but there is some truth to this. I just don't think some people really get it.

Foster Pet
Here's a story. This is Cat. Cat was found by Sport-O's studio meowing like crazy right at our door. It must've been hungry and lost. Sport-O saw it the other day on the neighboring property, but thought it may have been an outdoor cat that wandered the neighborhood. We realized that this little kitten meowing at us last night was declawed and probably snipped- and as we found out- is litter trained. So someone cared about this cat- which probably escaped from its warm and loving house. This was no outdoor cat. It was so lovable. Hearts were melted.Sport-o and Sport-a couldn't just leave the little thing to be hit by a car on a busy street or to be eaten by a bigger animal. With no claws it had no defense. It didn't have fleas or anything wrong with it so the Sports snatched it up and took it home. Fliers are being made and they'll be put on telephone poles. Time will tell.
The Sports are leary about handing Cat over to the Humane Society. They're hoping someone will claim Cat before it comes to that. The Humane Society does not euthanize, which makes Sport-a feel a little better. But the Sports have mixed feelings about Cat. What do you do with it? What if no one claims it? And....
So what about the guinea pig?! This may be an issue. Right now, Cat is afraid of Frodo, which is good. If Cat stays away, then the Sports won't find Frodo's half-eaten body when they come home. Frodo's room door is closed for now. Frodo is the pet. Cat is the foster pet. "They are labeled #1 Shit and #2 Shit," Sport-a said. "We can't name Cat because that would create an attachment to it," Sport-a also said. But Azriel has been spoken (Gargamel's cat from The Smurfs). So has numerous Lord of the Rings character names... you know- to go with "Frodo." Sauron? Saruman? Eowyn? Arwen? Galadriel?
But Cat is just Cat. And we need to find Cat's real home.

I Dreamed a Dream
So I had a vivid dream of being in an out of control elevator plunging to my death. When I "landed" it was when I was startled awake. It felt like my body had been dropped there. The falling sensation felt so real.
So this is what sleeps.com has to say about these aspects of my dream.
Elevator
An elevator dream is a rather complex dream and you should interpret it in light of all the other symbols in your dream, for one thing, if the elevator is going up your fortunes will increase, down is the opposite. If the elevator continues to go up and down with out letting you off means you have let your emotions, or your situation, get out of control and must do something to stop it.
Fall
If you dream you are falling but you are not frightened or harmed shows that you will meet with adversity but overcome it with ease. If the fall greatly frightens you then will you under go a major struggle in life. If you are injured in the fall you will lose many friends.
---So in conclusion I will have decreased fortunes and will undergo a major struggle in life. Yippee. That sounds so comforting.
I haven't had any rock star dreams lately and I think I'm due for some. I've been visited by Bono, John Lennon, Bon Jovi (seriously). Those are the best dreams. That and the ones where I'm flying.

Issues
In no particular order
1. Medical Insurance people suck. SUCK, as in S-U-C-K suck.
2. My online class teacher is a total schlub and so are most of the students. I've never had a class like this before.
3. I have my old boss coming back to my workplace next week for a day- so I'll have 2 bosses at one time sort of. I wonder if she'll tell me what to do or if she'll treat me as a peer. I'm thinking the first option.
4. A maintenance guy broke a flourescent light right in front of my office today. Is that bad luck or something?
5. There's snow in the mountains... that means that they'll be closing the gate to the Park soon.
6. I probably won't be able to go to my good friend's wedding in Feb. I'm pretty bummed about it.
7. I'm still keeping the faith, but it is fading about going to Italy. It's only money afterall. We'll be in debt for the rest of our lives, but when won't we be in debt?
8. I'm facing burnout. Need a vacation.
9. I'm facing burnout. Need a vacation.
10. I'm a hockey widow again. (The season started up)

Aftershocks
So last week was extremely stressful. This week is like the total opposite. It's quiet, it's calm. It's like we're inside the eye of a hurricane or something. huh. I just used an annoying simile. I'm sick of similies and metaphors.
At work the "powers that be" are referring to a tsunami and the wave effects. I've also heard the whole "we'll give you a bite of the apple," bit, the "we're a mile wide and an inch deep"routine, among other classics. Gag Gag.
So I'm joining in on this new phenomenon- or should we say, "jumping on the band wagon." What is a band wagon anyway? I said yesterday to my boss if there have been any "aftershocks" to last weeks meetings. While I said it I cringed on the inside a wee bit. I hate that kind of jargon- especially when it's coming out of my mouth. Just say what you think in plain english. Once in a while it's ok- but not with EVERYTHING.

What's wrong
I'm really frustrated with everything around me. Work, home, the one dinky class I'm taking, what's on TV, what's for dinner, how my shoes fit, EVERYTHING. I'm not raggin it. I'm not hormonal. I'm just frustrated.
Maybe I need a vacation. Or maybe I should stop complaining. Or I should just suck it up and deal with it. I'm not the only one in the world with problems and my problems will probably bring me to shame when I hear about other people's hardships. OR, just maybe, I should frikkin start yelling at people; get out of my easy-going, go with the flow, accomodating kind of personality and really start being a total bitch. Will I then get my way? Probably not. I'd likely just get a reputation for being manic or something. Just my luck.
Oh and one more thing------people in the history of Wyoming class--- please- for the love of Pete, use spell check already! They are Indian warriors- not worriers. (sheesh) And "ecosystem" does not, repeat, DOES NOT have anything to do with Native American casinos. It's about the wildlife and landscape! It doesn't take a genius.

Licitarska Srca
from http://croatiagifts.safeshopper.com/261/1313.htm?130I'm a hunkie.
I live in Wyoming, but yet my Croatian roots from the good old melting pot of Pittsburgh aren't too far away. I say words like (spelled phonetically)"flooka" or "haluski" or "Jeshish, Maria" and most of the time even my husband asks me what the heck I just said.
Anyway, I volunteer to make a Christmas Party favor every year for my Grandmother's Croatian Group, Hrvaska Zene. I actually enjoy doing it. I can get my creative juices flowing and play with a glue gun until my hands are blistered. This year, though, is the last year for the club. According to my Gram she's the only active officer left and too many people are unable to come or are passed away. That's depressing. It's not just sad for her and her friends, but its the end of an era. See, my family's church was a Croatian ethnic church, and that was one of the groups that was founded there. Now it's like any memory of what "was" is going to be gone. Just a memory.
So, as a finale of sorts for the Christmas favor, I decided to incorporate a few things: it has to be something Christmas-y, something Croatian, and something that would bring about years of memories for the ladies. Easy task, right? Not so much.
After much searching on the internet for ideas of Croatian patterns, costumes, traditions, etc. I decided to make Licitarska Srca. They are "licitar hearts" that are a traditional cookie, sort of like gingerbread that is often used as a Christmas ornament rather than be eaten. One of the designs is to put a little mirror on the front of the cookie and then you give it to the one you love. When they look in the mirror- they see who you love. --- Well I thought it was perfect!
Many minutes (or hours, I donno) were lost from trying to figure out the supplies to make a "fake" cookie, but in the end I decided to make them out of sculpey. I pretty much ruined my rolling pin- as it is now bright red from rolling out red sculpey, but I now have a bunch of red hearts all over my kitchen table. I'm going to attempt to use puffy paint as the "icing" sooner or later- depending on when I feel brave enough.
Yes, I know it's only September, but I feel that making these little things is important both to me and to my Gram. I have got to get it right. Now, I have so many other projects at home to work on- too many to mention here without sounding like a total slacker. But yet I am so motivated to get my Gram's project done. Is it because she truly appreciates what I do? Maybe. Or is it that I so want to please her and impress her lady friends? Yeah sure. But I know I'm also doing it this year to have a bit of closure.
It's been almost 3 years now since St. Nick's locked its doors. My Mom isn't over it. My Gram tries to be over it but I know it still bothers her. And I feel that I moved away at such a time that I wasn't effected the way they were. This place was where I grew up pretty much. The place I also dreaded most of my adolescence and young adult years. But yet now I look back and see something different.
I feel like Linus in Charlie Brown Christmas when he puts his blanket around the little tree everyone made fun of and said "It really isn't such a bad little tree. All it needs is a little love." I feel like that when thinking of that little church.
I could go on and on about this. How my family's lives were changed. But it's not my reason for writing this entry. I'm writing about the significance of a little heart. And my Gram. I sometimes think about how she's not going to be around forever. So it's these times when we're working on a "project" together that I savor even though we're so far apart. I'm proud to be a hunkie. An Americanized, non-croatian speaking, ethnic-tradition keeping, palecenka-eating hunkie.
The Song in My Husband's Head and then My Head All Week
I Wish I Could Go Back to College
Avenue Q
KATE MONSTER:
I wish I could go back to college.
Life was so simple back then.
NICKY:
What would I give to go back and live in a dorm with a meal plan again!
PRINCETON:
I wish I could go back to college.
In college you know who you are.
You sit in the quad, and think, "Oh my God!
I am totally gonna go far!"
ALL:
How do I go back to college?
I don't know who I am anymore!
PRINCETON:
I wanna go back to my room and find a message in dry-erase pen on the door!
Ohhh...
I wish I could just drop a class...
NICKY:
Or get into a play...
KATE MONSTER:
Or change my major...
PRINCETON:
Or fuck my T.A.
ALL:
I need an academic advisor to point the way!
We could be...
Sitting in the computer lab,
4 A.M. before the final paper is due,
Cursing the world 'cause I didn't start sooner,
And seeing the rest of the class there, too!
PRINCETON:
I wish I could go back to college!
ALL:
How do I go back to college?!
AHHHH...
PRINCETON:
I wish I had taken more pictures.
NICKY:
But if I were to go back to college,
Think what a loser I'd be-
I'd walk through the quad,
And think "Oh my God..."
ALL:
"These kids are so much younger than me."

Look at me! I'm an art movement!
| You Are Impressionism |
![]() You think the world is quite beautiful, especially if you look at it in new and interesting ways. You tend to focus on color and movement in art. For you, seeing the big picture is much more important than recording every little detail. You can find inspiration anywhere... especially from nature. |

Project Managementality
I'm conteplating a possible future maybe position that I may or may not be offered but initially the job is mine if I want it, if it will at some point exist.
So I'm not trying to get myself nervous or to even get the least bit anxious about this proposed proposition for a position that may or may not even be created, let alone offered to me. But, I don't want to dismiss the aforementioned proposition if something does come to fruition. I, then, am feeling a bit, just a bit, excited, but I'm not going to start calling home about it jumping up and down. We're not there yet. The position does not exist currently, and may or may not exist in the future, time to be determined.
Anyway, I don't necessarily have good news or bad news to share with anyone about a possible position that may or may not be created that I may or may not be chosen for, but I suppose that it's the thought that counts, right?
I love working.

Trying to move forward
I'm posting yet again today.
I am trying to move forward and move past my anger with my sister. So I talked to her on the phone last night. The first time since end of May (when I visited home) that we talked and we had a nice conversation. Nothing was brought up to light any fires. I honestly don't know if she understands how mad I was at her. I had never been that angry, frustrated, hurt in my life by her. But I can type these words now without my blood pressure going up, my face getting red, and the keys on the keyboard getting pounded. I'm calmer, more collected. I realize that people aren't always who you think they are.
Things have sort of blew over, but I'm not ready to fully let go yet. Not for a while.
Mentalmine, I can't remember if I told you the whole story behind this. Email me if I didn't.

Memory almost full --in La la Land
Yes that first part of the title is the new Paul McCartney album, but it also applies to my small overloaded brain.
Ever have this awesome dream and you wake up and you're like "Wow. I should write that down. I'll write a book about it. It was so vivid." Then within 15 minutes of waking up you can't remember anything about it? That's been happening to me a lot lately. The other night I dreamed I was playing this really cool game at a party. I woke up and tried to remember it, and it was gone. Like someone sucked it out of my brain. I was bummed.
I've had a lot of things sucked out of my brain lately. I can't remember stuff like I used to. Am I on brain overload or just getting lazy? Should I start to take vitamins for memory or just learn to slow down and let things sink in? I'm often in my own world. Is that the problem? Maybe.
I especially wish I could remember things that my husband tells me. I'll ask him how was his day or something like that. He'll answer me. Then 5 minutes later, I'll ask him, "How was your day??? I know I just asked you that, but I don't remember what you said." Then he gets mad that I'm not listening. But I am, I swear!
On another note, I'll be making chocolate covered caramel pretzel rods this week for a bake sale. I didn't want to turn on the oven and make something like cookies (pah!) in this 100+ degree weather, so I'll make candy instead. If anyone wants the recipe I'd gladly pass it on. They are sooooooo good. Like Christmas good.

It's been a while
I haven't been the best blogger lately. So, as punishment, I'm going to give you a tour of my office. Only the interesting things...
I have a sock monkey on my desk that's holding up a sign that says, "You can't hug your children with nuclear arms." I'll be changing the messages weekly. Next week will be, "Hey! Hey! (I'm a monkey)" Thanks Mrs. Lynch!
I also have a nice sized bouncy ball. You have no idea how often I want to pick it up and throw it down the hallway just for shiggles. It's rainbow swirly colored.
I have a menu on my desk to hire a caterer for an all day meeting in August. I dread it. I'm not a frikkin event planner. I can give two craps about what people eat. But of course there's always going to be someone who doesn't like chicken, or is a vegetarian, or whatever. Pooey on them. Go eat a candy bar from the vending machine. Or go outside and eat grass. Moo.
Anyway, there's a little picture I drew and cut out on my wall of a island with a palm tree during a sunset. Granted the island is purple and the "sand stones" on it are made of whiteout. There's also a polka dot lizard on the tree, chillin out. It says, "I'm taking a mini vacation." and it hangs on the wall between my phone and my computer screen. I wish I could visit that purple island. I think the lizard and I would be good friends.
I have some random origami that I've done over the past 2 years. Open my drawer and you'll see flowers and boxes and cubes and stars and things that I've done out of post-its and paper scraps. I do work, believe me. It just may sound like I don't. I just fold paper to preserve my sanity. Or does my folding paper make me insane? The mind boggles.
I have a purple Miss Piggy mug I use every morning. It says, "Miss Piggy the Divine Swine". My husband has a Fozzie Bear mug at home. You thought I was going to say Kermit, didn't you?
I have real paintings on my walls. And gel frog window clings on my window. And my small collection of pencils in different shapes. I have one in the shape of a cowboy hat, mickey mouse head, umbrella, dollar sign, the aflac duck, a moose head, etc. Very exciting I must say. One day I'll show you my paper clip collection. It would make Bert from Sesame Street jealous. I just have to start to collect them.
And on my keyboard rollout shelf thingy I have a star wars mouse pad and a blue elephant wrist rest. And I have a picture or two of family and my guinea pig. yes. I'm lame enough to have a picture of my guinea pig.
So that's the highlights tour. I skipped the piles of folders and books and my in and out boxes. You may now go back to your normal lives feeling unfulfilled, just like I do looking at this stuff everyday.

Happy vacation
It's not a very good start to a vacation in dreading it in the first place, is it? Ive been going back and forth, looking forward to it, dreading it. The swinging pendulum of my mind.
It sucks, I tell you. I decided to do this to make myself happy and this is what I get.

Um yeah
SISTERS SUCK.
yeah, when you get screwed over by your own sister that's like some kind of line that shouldn't be crossed.

Going "Home"
I'll be going home
seeing my family that I haven't seen in a year
but it doesn't feel like home anymore.
It's a chore that I must do
I have to do it, but they don't
I have to bend backwards
they don't
But they don't see it that way
They're inconvenienced by me
by my decisions
to leave my home-
where I was born
where my family is-
and be happy.
My schedule fills up with
lunches, dinners, appointments
to see everyone
make promises
it's my vacation afterall
when I come back I'll need another one
to recover.
To balance seeing my ailing Mother
who was in the hospital this week
where days before I contimplated not calling her ever again
but then I was guilted back
because that's the role of family
even when you're not "home"
though you're in your own home
that's far away.
To balance between my in laws
make my husband happy
put on a performance
that my life is perfect.
To balance my sanity
my tiredness from a long day of catching flights
to friends who won't leave when it's 3am and you're falling asleep in front of them
but you're too nice to tell them to leave
To balance my patience
with 2 stupid dogs
and the humidity
and heavier air
that makes me feel heavy
weighed down
unpleasant.
Though I'm glad to see them
I dread it too
because I feel in my heart
they blame me for something
that I can't figure out
that I inconvenienced them
by making my own life
my own decisions.
They won't visit me.
Too much money. But I have to visit them.
Too much money for me too
but I'm doing it. Sucking it up.
Or I'm finished.
And the list goes on
I should stop complaining
I should be glad
afterall.

More than meets the eye

Transformers the movie -7.04.07-
There are too many movies that are coming out this Spring and Summer for me to keep up with. Spiderman, Shrek 3, Fantastic 4, Pirates 3, etc etc etc. I'd better start putting more money in my piggy bank so I can afford the frikkin movie tickets!

Who's There?
Little Old Lady
Little Old Lady Who?
Ha Ha you just yodeled!
Who's There?

Ha Ha you just yodeled!
a yodel or two and other wierd things
I took a yodeling workshop today at work. Couple of funny things about this experience:
1. I was at WORK
2.) my boss and I went to it together
3.) The guy who taught it is the same person who's voice you hear yodeling "Ya- hoooooo" for the Yahoo.com advertizements
4.) It's Friday the 13th and I took a frikkin' yodeling workshop!
5.) I kinda liked it (and will probably torment my husband at home trying to yodel over the weekend)
Other interesting things that happened today (and it's only going on 3:00pm):
1.) A guy walked past my office with a shopping cart. (May I remind you I work in a museum)
2.) There was a water leak in the hallway where my office is. Water was coming out of a light fixture.
3.) I shook the hand of a guy that was missing part of his index finger. It feels wierd.
4.) My security work badge broke. It's no longer secure. ;P
5.) There happens to be open latters everywhere... and it's Friday the 13th.
So here's hoping the rest of my day goes ok....

Blue Bayou
I feel so bad
I got a worried mind
I'm so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind
On Blue Bayou
Saving nickles saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou
I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fine
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be
Gonna see my baby again
Gonna be with some of my friends
Maybe I'll feel better again
On Blue Bayou
Saving nickles saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou
I'm going back someday

To Blue Bayou

And the world is mine

How happy I'd be
Oh that boy of mine
By my side
The silver moon
And the evening tide
Oh some sweet day
Gonna take away
This hurting inside
Well I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou

So Saturday is St. Patrick's Day. I've got lots of green stuff, shamrock earrings, green sweater, etc. But I always feel weird on that day because I'm not Irish. Not one drop of blood in me is a bit "green." So why do I care? because my ancestors were immigrants like them? Because of honoring the Saint himself? Because I wanna get drunk on green beer?
Question: Does anyone know the legend of St. Patrick and why his day is important or do they just go out and get plastered like there's no tomorrow? Anyone know about the "snakes" and all that jazz? I do, but I'm a dork like that.
Which also brings up the same question with Mardi Gras and Valentine's Day and other similar holidays. Do people go down to New Orleans just to flash their boobs and get beads, or will they fast and repent for Lent like you're "supposed to" for the next 40 days? Do people get dates for V-Day just to get laid? In that case, it should just be called VD Day. (I'm so original!) They're all Christian holidays, or at least they were once upon a dream.
So anyway to get back on point, when you decide to celebrate these holidays, what really are the intentions? Who says we should celebrate them? It's because of commercialism, I'm sure. Some religious connotations- yeah, supposedly. Possibly some kind of alterior motive (example: Valentine's day= sex, chocolate, and greeting cards), definitely. Which to sum up Original meaning: lost.
Holidays like Christmas and Halloween were brought about because of pagan celebrations way way way back in the day.
Who cares, right? Some historian in a dusty library who reads old books. Religious education teachers who try to put "Christ" in Christmas, or those who actually party hardy the day before Ash Wednesday and then become repentent sinners the next day. Or preachy college students that think they know it all and will debate you about the existence of life itself until the cows come home.
How's about government holidays? We celebrate events in history- 4th of July, Presidents Day, Bank holidays, and so on. Should these be considered in the same way as the "religious holidays" are? We get Christmas "off" of work/school because the government declares it a national holiday- but isn't it a religious one too? So the 4th of July and Christmas are in the same boat?
Ok- So if Jesus and Uncle Sam were in a boat and both fell out and you could only save one, who would you save? Niether- Jesus can walk on water and Uncle Sam is a fictional character (except he exists in the hearts of proud americans, of course).
So really we can owe all this "celebrationism" to those from before and after antiquity. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Druids, Celts, etc. That's funny because the early Christians wanted everything to be anti-pagan, though they modeled so much after pagan customs. So thank you, antiquity. You give me reason to drink green beer and wear goofy earrings, have lots of sex, dress up in costumes, sing carols about snowmen, and flash people for cheap necklaces. Wahoo! (Bacchus would be proud!)
So I will end this rant with something appropriate: "Beware the ides of March."
Same to you, Brutus! Up yours!

Nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Does anyone give a flying piece of crap about this blog?

People Suck, part II
Power. Power is what gets to people's heads. Makes them feel superior at others' expense. Power can kill. Power can create. Havok. Peace. Stress. Calm. People who have power must learn to use it. Listen to those who they have power over. Don't act blindly and make decisions based on what they want. How many kings and queens were beheaded, banished, couped, before realizing that the power is what got them in trouble.
People who don't know how to use power suck. But yet at some point we humans crave it. No one wants to be told what to do. They want to tell others what to do. And we have to do it, if we want paid, if we want to eat, if we want a home, friends, luxuries.... to live. Lead, follow or get out of the way is how the saying goes. What happens when you get out of the way?

People Suck
Ok so things have been going well at work. Too well. I knew the jig would be up sooner or later. And no, it's not the new boss, she's fine. It's the same people that have been pulling crap ever since I started working here. You hope people would change, but they don't. You get slapped in the face, mud slinging galore, (all figuratively, of course, though I wish I could throw a nice gooey mud pie in certain people's faces)and all because people think they have power. Doesn't make much sense to me--- we're all peons, shouldn't we just get along?
One in particular, whom I affectionately call Bitch AM, has been on my nerves. I'm trying to schedule a very important event at work and it's up to her department to give me the go ahead. And I feel like I'm slamming my head against a wall whenever I talk to her.
The funny thing about all this is that my old boss really, REALLY clashed with her, and everyone blamed my boss due to her reputation. Well, it's starting again, and guess what- that old boss is gone! Hmmmmmm....wonder who's causing the problem?
In conclusion, people suck ass. I'm too nice and put up with it.

Mother, Mother
I have such Mom issues it's disgusting. I've written off and on about how she treats me since I've moved away. I can't talk to her on the phone without her crying before we hang up, nor can I talk about my job, my apartment, the town I live in, or just about anything that will trigger her to say something like, "So when do you think you'll be moving home?" I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.
But she's my mother, and the way she works is that she'll lay the guilt trips on you until you can't take it anymore and you lash out. Then, being faultless, she'll make it like there was no reason for you to be that way, and she'll make you feel worse than before. And that's the vicious cycle that my siblings and I have to go through over and over again. No wonder my brother pretty much cuts off contact from my mother for weeks at a time (but lives a few miles away). And my youngest sister, the last of us still living in the house, is never home. But you don't think my mom would have anything to do with that, do you? Never! My brother ABANDONED her. And I ABANDONED her. My other sister, who is a replica of my mother, is starting to realize what the rest of us have known forever. We'll have to wait and see what she does to piss off mom, and ABANDON her too.
People have said to me to just be honest and tell my mom to let up. That all Moms are that way. I can tell you right now that that wouldn't work. She knows how to push buttons. It's her God-given gift as my mother to do that. She'll put the problem on you. Yeah, every mother at some point is this way, I'll give you that. But this is MY mother.
Remember this song? Mother Mother by Tracy Bonham:
Mother mother can you hear me I'm just calling to say hello
How's the weather how's my father am I lonely heavens no
Mother mother are you listening just a phone call to ease your mind
Life is perfect never better distance making the heart grow blind
When you sent me off to see the world where you scared that I might get hurt
Would I try a little tobacco would I keep on hiking up my skirt
I'm hungry
I'm dirty
I'm losing my mind
Everything's fine
I'm freezing
I'm starving
I'm bleeding to death
Everything's fine
Yeah, I'm working, making money I'm just starting to build a name
I can feel it around the corner I could make it any day
Mother mother can you hear me yeah I'm sober sure I'm sane
Life is perfect never better still your daughter still the same
If I tell you what you want to hear will it help you to sleep well at night
Are you sure that I'm your perfect dear now just cuddle up and sleep tight
I'm hungry
I'm dirty
I'm losing my mind
Everything's fine
I'm freezing
I'm starving
I'm bleeding to death
Everything's fine
I miss you
I love you.
It's scary how much this song rings true. I cringe.

Birthday comings up
Ok so last year for my birthday weekend we drove to Bozeman for my husband's hockey tourney. It was -22 degrees and he played in an open, out door arena. It was frikkin insane. The other thing that was frikkin insane was me. I wanted to be away from these hockey people and do stuff with just the two of us, where my husband wanted to hang out with them all weekend. It was supposed to be my birthday weekend, the first birthday I had 1700 miles from my nearest relative or friend other than Sport-o. He wanted to make me happy but he wanted to hang with his hockey buds too. I look back now and realize how much I took things out of proportion. I sat in the car that one night and I cried, I yelled, I think made Sport-o regret bringing me to Bozeman in the first place. I couldn't control my emotions. I think he even thought to himself, "I married this drama queen?!?!"
Anyway, I've apologized for my behavior, and recently, because his hockey team is planning on entering another tournament in Bozeman, weekend before my birthday, these thoughts are coming up again. I want to be "cool" with things, and I think my husband wants me to be "cool" with things too, but he's very cautious. I know it will be thirty and forty somethings drinking beer between games and going to Famous Dave's after them and eat ribs and have a good time. But I dread it. These people aren't my friends. The "wives" of the players have never warmed up to me, nor I them. I have actually come to hate it when I sit with them and we have nothing to say. I'll watch the game, but the "talk" that goes on bothers me because it's so awkward. I'm not a big socialite, but I'm not mean or anything- just shy. I'm not a beer guzzler. I don't eat barbeque ribs. (Last year when we went out with the team I ordered a salad. You couldn't imagine the looks.)
Anyway, for it being my big birthday weekend, I'm not really looking forward to it. At least the arena has changed since we were there last, in the fact that it's closed in. So if it's below zero temperatures we should be able to be more comfortable. But the scenerio I expect will be the same. Now if I could just keep my cool and understand that I may not do what I want to do, I think we'll be ok.

I'm sure I'm the first person to think of this
I just came up with a great Valentine's Day gift: A Heart album.

Crystal Ball by Styx
I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line
I used to think that everything was fine
Sometimes I'd like to sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams
All alone and trapped in time
All alone and trapped in time
I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me
Or am I even in it's mind at all
Perhaps I'll get a chance to look ahead and see
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Tell me, tell me where I'm going
I don't know where I've been
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
And then tell me again
My heart is breaking, my body's aching
And I don't know where to go
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
I've just got to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball
["extra verse" used occasionally live]
If you should see me walking
Through your dreams at night
Would you please direct me
Where I ought to be
I've been looking for a crystal ball
To shed the light
To find a future in me...
To find a future in me...
Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball

Dear Shadows of the Past
Dear Shawna,
I never met you but I hate you. You have set the precident for so much, whether I like it or not. You and your mental problems have left a residue on others close to you that will affect me for the rest of my life. If I show some kind of instability, cry a little too often, or express myself in a way that some might think was not normal, I am automatically put in your category as "psycho." Why couldn't you have been a better person? Why couldn't you have taken your meds and had the courtesy of caring about others, especially those you claimed to "love" so many years ago? Why did you kill your friend? Why those other unspeakable things you did? Why do I feel like I'm sometimes compared to you in someone's head? And why is it mostly in my head?
Dear Todd,
You suck. I wish that I hated you, that I would never think of you again. I'm happy now. I should call you up and gloat in your face. But I won't. Instead I live my life far far away from you, but yet small things remind me of you. But I wonder if you think about me the way I think of you... that without experiencing things with you so long ago that I wouldn't be where I am now. I guess I should thank you for that. You hurt me so I would be stronger. And all those "others" who have come after you, all lead me to where I am now. I should have kicked you to the curb many times. When you peed your pants, when you flirted, when you were a total ass. I hate that I gave you control of things I should have been in control of. But I learned. I found myself after you. I just had to be patient enought to know when and where I could find myself.
Dear Mr. Johnson,
Thank you for making me Drum Major. You gave me the chance to show myself and others who I could be. I don't know why you picked me, but I think that that was one of the most pivotal events of my life and it helped form who I would become. But at the same time I want to yell at you and spit in your face. One thing I'll never forgive you for is giving the Carol of the Bells solo to that stupid Rachel. You didn't have enough confidence in me then, did you? Never gave me the chance. Let me play the fukin suspended symbol. So kiss my white fluffy ass you chain smoking, snort laughing, bald stick man. Go make out with Mrs. Y and rub her hump with glee.
Dear Tyne,
I seriously hope that you quit drugs. I hope your baby is healthy and beautiful and you take great care of her. I hope that you are happy wherever you are now. I worry about you sometimes and hope you aren't o.d.'d from E somewhere and your baby is in foster care or worse. God, I wish I could've been a better friend to you, but I think you were too far gone.
Dear Kristen,
Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, I hope you are well. I think about you sometimes and wonder whatever happened to you. You were my only real friend for a short while, and it broke my heart when you moved away. But you made me stronger somehow, I guess by not being there I had to learn to be on my own. You can't live life with regret, only learn from mistakes. I turned myself into "quiet one" for a while there, but don't worry, by the next year I was a new person. And I hope you learned to grow and be a good person too.
Dear 1995 classmates of S.S.S: Screw you. Lick my ass wannabe rich stupid snot rags. You never gave a crap about me and I will never give a crap about you.
Dear Reserve A.A. softball team: You never gave me the chance to show you who I was. You're all superficial wannabes yourselves. Just because I didn't grow up on the same street as you and didn't wear the same clothes you judged me. I loved to play the game, but not your petty little "other" game- I hated all of you. YOu made me miserable. When I got hurt you all pretended to care. I wasn't stupid. If I ever see you walking in or out of a grocery store near me, I'll shut the door in your face.
Sincerely yours,

The next episode of Tea Snob and a RPG/WoW/Hockey Widow
For Christmas I bought my hubby some fancy schmancy tea in assorted flavors and a cool teapot that strains the tea leaves and steeps the tea. Anyway, now he's turning into a tea snob. It's funny because he's never been that way before. he likes tea, but would drink whatever's around. Now he's thinking about what flavors he wants me to reorder. And I bought him like ten sampler boxes. His favorite so far- blood orange.
Speaking of ol' sport-o, I was watching Oprah the other day whose episode featured a panel of men: authors, sports dudes, and Jay Leno (go figure) and they were discussing what does on in a man's head. A woman asked what should she do with her husband who's obsessed with golf- she a self proclaimed "golf widow." Then a light went on in my head. I'm a RPG (role playing games)/WoW (World of Warcraft)/Hockey widow. :::Sigh::::
So- Another one bites the dust. Dust in the wind. Wind beneath my wings. Wings on a prayer. You get the idea.
But I realize I'm not alone in this realm of being left by the curb by one's husband as this golf widow is one too and I'm sure there are many many more. So anyway I told Sport-o about my revelation and how that finally breaks down what's been bothering me about our relationship of late. His response--- "I always make time for you." Oh boy. That didn't help. He's just not going to get it, is he? One time I said to him while he's playing WoW that I just wanted to talk to him and chill out. He said that we could talk while he plays.... oooooooooh that makes a girl feel good! I love getting one word answers while watching his character attack a giant spider on the computer screen!(been there done that!)
Even though I am not a worshipper of Oprah, this show did reveal things that made sense about "guys" and my "guy" in particular. Pretty much that men's brains are set up so different than women that no wonder we have problems getting along. Total clash.
You know what I say to that? Boo. It shouldn't be that complicated. Why is it? We're all human, right? The Powers that be always say that communication is the key, but why does the key always seem to be the wrong one?
