Know that Kenny Rogers song, The Gambler? It's playing right now on my computer. Those are some words of wisdom, I tell ya. I'll let you interpret on your own as I found my own inspiration from it.
Here the lyrics are for you to ponder:
On a warm summers evenin on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler;
we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin out the window at the darkness
til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.
He said, son, I've made a life out of readin peoples faces,
And knowin what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
So if you dont mind my sayin, I can see youre out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey Ill give you some advice.
So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, if youre gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.
You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when youre sittin at the table.
Therell be time enough for countin when the dealins done.
Now evry gambler knows that the secret to survivin
Is knowin what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
cause evry hands a winner and evry hands a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.
So when hed finished speakin, he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.
You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when youre sittin at the table.
Therell be time enough for countin when the dealins done.
You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when youre sittin at the table.
Therell be time enough for countin when the dealins done.

February
It always seemed to me that February came in like a race car and out like a.... well...race car. You barely knew it flew past you. But I like February. It's the month I was born, Valentine's day is always a plus, many of my friends birthdays are near mine, and there's always some monster truck rally that comes to town. I always wanted to check those out and never did. They always come around my birthay. Oh well.
February will come and go. People often decide to cram things into this little month. Growing up I'd rarely get my birthday cake or presents on my birthday. My parents would put it off until a week or two later, or even wait until my brother's birthday which was in March. We were busy with all sort of activities. It was ok with me then, but now I realize I was jipped! Getting those "shared" or stale birthday cakes was a sham! I want restitution!
But I digress. But February is a good month. It's like a little puppy dog that you pat on the head and say "good boy." Weather is a bit unpredictable but you can have some warm days and some snow days. People are also coming out of the Christmas funk a month after they realize how maxed out their credit cards are and started to pay them off. People also start to look toward spring. I just kinda like how it's stuck in the middle... not dead Winter but not too close to Spring either. The month just moves along; that obedient puppy dog!
And February is unique because of the way it's spelled and said. You must emphasize how you say it to be clear. Otherwise you sound stupid.
I like February. That is, until it pees on the floor.
